PURPOSE: A method for preparing a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided, to improve the discharge voltage characteristic, the cycle lifetime characteristic, the high efficiency and the power characteristic. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of adding a lithium-containing source material to a doping element-containing coating solution to treat the surface of a metal-containing source material, wherein the metal-containing source material contains a metal selected from the group consisting of Co, Mn, Ni and their mixture except Li; drying the surface-treated metal-containing source material to prepare an active material precursor; and mixing the active material precursor with a lithium salt and heating the mixture. Preferably the doping element is an element capable of being dissolved in an organic solvent or water, and is selected from the group consisting of Mg, Al, Co, Ni, K, Na, Ca, Si, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ti, Sn, V, Ge, Ga, B, P, Se, Bi, As, Zr, Mn, Cr, Ge, Sr, V, Sc, Y, rare earth elements, and their mixture. |
