<p>A portable sewage treatment facility comprising a chamber consists of a chamber 100 which is divided into two compartments 101 and 102, which are connected by a weir 103. The first compartment 101 has a projection 104 which terminates in a toilet seat 105. The toilet seat being superimposed above a sewage inlet means including a normally closed inlet valve 108. The second compartment 102 includes a filter bed 109. At the bottom of compartment 102 is an effluent discharge pipe 113 for discharging fluid which has passed through the filter bed 109. The weir 103 includes a baffle 115 which ensures that matter cannot pass directly form the first compartment 101 to second compartment 102. The chamber 100 may be a septic tank, with the first compartment 101 comprising an anaerobic biological treatment. The weir 103 may be positioned so as to provide a pressure head to facilitate distribution over the filter bed 109 of the liquid effluent. The upper surface 118 of the second compartment 102 may be adapted to act as a step for a person using the facility. There may be included a settlement chamber 118 interposed between the first 101 and second 102 compartments.</p> |
