<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation control method and device for a premixed compression ignition engine capable of performing lean premixed compression self-ignition combustion operation with high efficiency and stability without being influenced by a change in fuel quality and air supply humidity nor causing a decline in the durability of the engine by controlling engine control items largely influenced by the fuel quality and the humidity to be suitable for the quality and the humidity for every operating condition of the engine. <P>SOLUTION: In the premixed compression ignition engine, the relation between the self-ignition characteristics of fuel and the control item of the engine is set in advance in a control item setting means. The self-ignition characteristics of the fuel is calculated based on fuel composition and the detection value of the humidity, and the control item suitable for the calculated value of the characteristics and the detection value of engine operation conditions is selected from the item setting means, thereby controlling the operation of the engine according to the selected value of the item. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
