PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capsule transport apparatus which safely and efficiently carries excavated muck to a ground location at the time of excavation of a shaft or an inclined shaft, and smoothly carries equipment necessary for excavation in the shaft, and to provide a capsule transporting method. SOLUTION: According to the capsule transporting method, a capsule transport pipe 7 is arranged between the interior of the shaft and the ground location, and a predetermined quantity of muck which is conveyed from an excavated muck storage section 15, is charged and stored in a capsule 8 in a storage short pipe 9 which is vertically borne on a carriage 12. Then, the capsule storage short pipe 9 is connected to a lower end of the transport pipe 7, and only the capsule 8 is air-transported through the interior of the transport pipe 7 up to the ground location. After discharging the muck on the ground, the equipment is stored in the capsule 8 and then lowered through the interior of the transport pipe 7 down to the storage short pipe 9 at the lower end of the transport pipe 7. Then, the storage short pipe 9 is separated from the transport pipe 7, and the equipment is supplied to an equipment receiving section 17, followed by charging muck again into the vacant capsule 8 to be carried in the shaft.
