PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing aβ-hydroxyamino acid or its derivative important as a chiral building block in diastereo selectivity, in high enantio selectivity and in a high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing theβ-hydroxyamino acid derivative comprises subjecting an amino acid derivative having a prescribed structure and an aldehyde to an aldol reaction in the presence of an optically active N-spiro quaternary ammonium salt represented by formula (III) and then hydrolyzing the obtained erythro-β-hydroxyamino acid ester Schiff base. Thereby, theβ-hydroxyamino acid derivative can be produced in diastereo selectivity and in high enantio selectivity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
