PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of inspecting a fault and its position or the like of a transparent beverage bottle fitted with a transparent printed label (which does not have a white opaque print layer) and an inspecting device therefor. SOLUTION: In this method of inspecting transparent beverage bottles, with a light having near infrared rays, a transparent beverage bottle fitted with a transparent printed label having a near infrared ray absorption layer is irradiated from the side face, only transmitting near infrared light is received and the transparent beverage bottle is inspected based on the quantity of received light. Inspection items are breakage occurring on the label, transformation holes other than proper perforation, and the fitted position or the like of the label. This device for inspecting the bottle is provided with a bottle carrying part 100, a near infrared ray light source part 101 for irradiating the bottle, a CCD camera 102 for photographing the light transmitting the bottle, an image processing part 103 for judging based on the image information from the camera, and an operation control part 104 for controlling an exhaust part 105 based on the judging signal.
