PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality image in which the occurrence of peeling blister is completely restrained without causing the shortening of the life of an image carrying belt such as an intermediate transfer belt or the uncontrollableness of driving, nor requiring much power even in the case of using coated paper as recording paper in an image forming apparatus of a transfer fixing system using an image carrying belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a cooling means 6 for cooling the image carrying belt 1 which has been heated by a heating means 2 at least to specified temperature lower than temperature at which the belt 1 is heated at a specified position in a section E, that means, from a position before the belt 1 reaches the pressure part Np of a pressure means 3 to a position just after it passes through the pressure part Np.
