PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing the separation characteristic of transfer material (recording medium) separated from an image carrier or the transfer characteristic of a toner image from being changed by environmental change such as temperature and humidity with simple and inexpensive constitution. SOLUTION: The surface roughness of an intermediate transfer body is made coarser than that of a transfer belt, the transfer material which has passed through a transfer nip is sucked to the transfer belt side, and also the intermediate transfer body and the transfer belt are constituted of material having nearly coincident temperature and humidity dependency such as surface resistance or a dielectric constant so as to make the influence of the environmental change all the same and prevent the sucking force of the transfer material from being changed.
