PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the supporting mechanism of a vertical shaft member and also to facilitate attaching/detaching work by arranging a supporting part for an outside cover member in the case of attaching an original cover at the upper part of an image reader. SOLUTION: A shaft member 16 is provided on the outside cover member 15 covering over the outer surface of a main body frame 2 in order to support the original cover 5 to open/close on the frame 2, and the vertical shaft member 12 of a hinge member 10 is inserted in an insertion hole 16a, and a fastener 13 is attached to the lower end of the member 12 to prevent coming off. By arranging the member 16 on the member 15, the constitution of the frame 2 is simplified, and the original cover 5 constituted to be comparatively light in weight is supported in a stable state.
