PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a deterioration in image quality accompanying leakage of electric lines of force. SOLUTION: As illustrated, 2nd display electrodes 5 are arranged in a pixel peripheral part A<SB>2</SB>of each pixel in the state tilting against a substrate. Thus, the electric lines of force of a display electrode 4 in each pixel are prevented from leaking. Therefore, electrophoretic particles 3 arranged in each pixel can be moved only by applying voltage to the electrodes 4, 5 of each pixel, and the image quality can be prevented from deteriorating.
