PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a spacer by which the height of the spacer can be adjusted and a cell gap can be adjusted even after the first panel evaluation of an LCD is performed and to provide a liquid crystal display element using the spacer. SOLUTION: The method for forming the spacer comprising a step for forming a photosensitive resin layer on a substrate, a step for patternwise exposing and successively developing the photosensitive resin layer, a step for performing post-exposure and a step for performing a post-baking treatment is characterized in that the height of the spacer can be adjusted in the range of±0.2μm by changing conditions of the post-exposure and the post-baking treatment.
