PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for producing a container for holding a columnar member capable of holding appropriately a columnar member wound round with a shock absorbent member in a cylindrical member by making a sizing to the cylindrical member appropriately on the basis of the contacting pressure given to the columnar member by a compressive restoring force of the shock absorbent member which is compressed. SOLUTION: At the measuring process (M), the shock absorbent member A is pressed by a pressing piece in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the column C to compress the shock absorbent member (M1), and the contacting pressure given to the column by the compressive restoring force of the shock absorbent member is sensed (M2), followed by measuring the distance between the axis of the columnar member when the obtained contacting pressure becomes the specified target value and the tip of the pressing piece, and the measurement is taken up as the target radius Rt (M3). At the sizing process (V), a single piece article in the condition that the shock absorbent member is wound round the columnar member is accommodated in the cylindrical member T loosely (V1), and the cylindrical member is contracted diametrically together with the shock absorbent member while the amount of diametrical contraction is set so that the substantial internal radius of the part accommodating at least the shock absorbent member becomes the target radius Rt (V2).
