PURPOSE: A method for preparing an active material for a battery, an active material precursor for a battery prepared by using the method, and a method for preparing a battery using the active material are provided, to improve the heat stability and the electrochemical properties of an active material. CONSTITUTION: The active material, a lithium-containing compound having a surface-treated layer represented by MXOk, is prepared by adding a compound containing an element (X) capable of forming a double bond with oxygen, and a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, an element of group 13 and 14, a transition metal and a rare earth element, to water to prepare a coating solution; adding a metal salt containing no lithium to the coating solution and drying it to prepare a surface-treated active material precursor; and mixing the active material precursor and a lithium salt and heating it, wherein M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, an element of group 13 and 14, a transition metal and a rare earth element; X is an element capable of forming a double bond; and k is 2-4. |
