PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize precise positioning operation in each of working stations by a simple constitution in a bookbinding machine having a conveying mechanism equipped with a plurality of book block clamps to be continuously moved in a closed circulating passage with a roller chain and the various working stations arranged along the circulating passage. SOLUTION: The bookbinding machine 1 is equipped with a driving part 22 of the conveying mechanism 5 of the book block clamps 6 and driving parts 34, 42, 45 and 48 of the working stations. The conveying mechanism 5 and at least one working station are drivable independently with each other. In order to control the working station for performing its positioning action, the machine is equipped with a measuring mechanism for detecting the position of the book block clamp 6 or of a book block 2 or a rotation transmitter 51, and detecting heads 52a, 52b, 52c and 52d or a resolver type feedback part 55.
