PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert assembly 100 for a rotary machine containing a rotor 110 and a casing 120. SOLUTION: The rotor 110 contains a generally longitudinally extending axis. The casing 120 is generally coaxially aligned with the axis. The casing 120 circumferentially surrounds, and is radially spaced apart from the rotor 110. The insert assembly 140 contains a channel 130 circumferentially disposed on the rotor 110 and the insert 140 circumferentially disposed in such channel 130 such that the insert assembly 110 is configured to thermally insulate frictional heat from the rotor 110 to the insert 140.
