PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a printer which forms images with a high image quality and a high printing accuracy. SOLUTION: A front sensor (one end side detecting means) 21 and a rear sensor (the other end side detecting means) 21' are set at both ends in an arrangement direction in which discharge openings (dot forming parts) of a recording head 2 are arranged. Before the image is formed to a recording medium P, the recording head 2 is reciprocated and, the front sensor 21 and the rear sensor 21' detect end parts of the recording medium P respectively, whereby a tilt with respect to an effective image region on the recording medium P in the arrangement direction is detected.
