PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for measuring core flow rate capable of measuring core flow rate of a boiling water reactor stably for a long time after the operation of a plant is started, in a simple constitution of equipment, and provide a method for measuring core flow rate. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a plurality of ultrasonic transmitter/ receiver means installed in the circumference of an outer wall constituting a pressure vessel of the boiling water reactor and a core flow rate calculating means for obtaining mean linear flow rates of a cooling medium in downcomers corresponding to installation positions of the ultrasonic transmitter/receiver means from propagation times of ultrasonic waves in the downcomers measured by the respective ultrasonic transmitter/receiver means and calculating the core flow rate of the cooling medium by using the mean linear flow rates thus obtained. The ultrasonic transmitter/receiver means are installed in lower zones of the downcomers where substantially no bubbles are present in rated operation of the reactor. The lower zone of the downcomer corresponds to a region within 3 m upward from a top of an internal pump. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
