<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the travelling performance of a vehicle and prevent the application of an excessive load to an engine effectively by detecting the failure of the switching function of an exhaust cut valve quickly and carrying out a proper control according to this failure status in the engine with turbocharger wherein the turbine scroll section comprises a plurality of exhaust passages, and the exhaust cut valve is provided in a passage out of a plurality of the passages to open and cut off the passage. <P>SOLUTION: A control device has failure diagnostic functions for the exhaust cut valve, and a fail safe function when a failure of the exhaust cut valve is detected, and the failure diagnostic functions has two functions, i.e., a function to determine a failure in an electric system relating an actuator for the exhaust cut valve and a function to determine a failure in the operation of the exhaust cut valve.
