<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a resin used for coating materials consisting of an alkyd resin of an intermediate to large oil length by using recovered polyethylene terephthalate as a raw material. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises (a) a process of transesterifying the recovered polyethylene terephthalate with a polyhydric alcohol and an oil to form a resin intermediate having an oil length of 60-90% and (b) a process of adding a polycarboxylic acid to the intermediate to esterify so as to produce a resin of an acid value less than 18 mgKOH/g and a number average molecular weight of 2,000-8,000. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
