PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum pump having a great latitude in the exhaust and intake construction. SOLUTION: This vacuum pump is provided with a cylinder 40, and a piston 50 reciprocating in the cylinder 40. A bolt 48 for fixing an intake valve 46 is provided inside the cylinder 40, and a recessed part 50a to be fitted with a head part 48a of the bolt 48 is provided on the piston 50. The head part 48a of the bolt 48 and the recessed part 50a of the piston are located on rotational central axes O<SB>1</SB>and O<SB>2</SB>of the cylinder 40 and the piston 50. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
