PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing degradation in life with a high accuracy so as to execute preventive maintenance and exact maintenance of an instrument and a material of a nuclear plant and replacement of the instrument, at an appropriate time. SOLUTION: Damages occurring in the instrument are caused by combined influences by environment, operation history of the nuclear plant, manufacture conditions of the instrument and the like. An index value is set on a supposed degradation event on the basis of factors related to life and degradation of the material, and a risk is diagnosed based on the index value. Data on water quality environment 2, operation history of the plant 3, exposure 4, measured value of degradation degree 5, welding history 6, chemical constituents of the material used 7, manufacture history of the material of the instrument 8, preventive maintenance history 9 and shape of the instrument 10 are accumulated in an information database 1 for each of the instruments in the nuclear plant. Diagnosis is executed by using these data in combination. The first diagnosis A determines a degradation index on the degradation event of each of the instruments, and the second diagnosis B determines a risk on the degradation index. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
