PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CACHEXIA AND ANOREXIA

A method of preventing and treating the onset of or existing cachexia and/or anorexia in a human comprises internally administering on a daily basis (a) an oil blend containing omega -6 fatty acids and at least 450 mg of omega -3 fatty acids, the weight ratio of the respective fatty acids being from 0.1 to 3.0, (b) a source of amino-nitrogen where 15-50 wt.% of the aminoacids in the source are branched chain amino acids, and (c) an antioxidant component comprising at least one nutrient selected from beta -carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium; at least (a) and (c) being present in a liquid nutritional matrix.
