PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a (meth)acrylic ester copolymer, with a high freedom for controlling a copolymer composition, capable of giving the copolymer improved in heat resistivity and water resistivity. SOLUTION: The (meth)acrylic ester copolymer is prepared by mixing a (meth)acrylic ester with (A) an organometallic compound and then copolymerizing the (meth)acrylic ester with at least one of an olefin compound and a cycloalkene in the presence of a polymerization catalyst containing (B) a transition metal compound and (C) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of (C-1) an organometallic compound, (C-2) an organoaluminoxy compound and (C-3) a compound forming an ion pair by reacting with (B) the transition metal compound.
