PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a gear with which a helical gear can be taken out without loading to a tooth face of the formed helical gear with a closed forging. SOLUTION: This production apparatus 1 forms the helical gear formed with the tooth face having a spiral tooth trace on an almost columnar shaped outer peripheral surface with the closed forging. This apparatus is composed of a punch 11 which presses the upper surface in the axial direction of the helical gear, a die 13 which forms a hollow through-hole structure having the almost columnar shaped hollow part and has a forming surface 131 formed as the spiral forming tooth trace on the inner peripheral surface thereof, and a die sleeve 12 which is formed as the spiral forming sleeve tooth trace 232 on the almost columnar shaped outer peripheral surface and presses the lower face of the helical gear, and is screwed onto the forming tooth trace in the die 13.
