PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turbid substance removing apparatus having a structure wherein the capturing and discharge of a turbid substance due to a filter medium are efficiently performed by the compaction state of a filter medium at the time of treatment operation of raw water and by releasing the compaction state of the filter medium at the time of washing operation. SOLUTION: The turbid substance removing apparatus is constituted by fixing a plurality of filter media (4) between the lower support (2) and upper support (3) arranged in a column (1) in a suspended state by lower hanging strings (7) and upper hanging strings (8). The distance between the lower and upper supports (2) and (3), the length of the filter media (4), the length of the lower hanging strings (7) and the length of the upper hanging strings (8) are regulated so as to satisfy a specific relation.
