METALLIC CARRIER FOR EXHAUST GAS PURIFICATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic carrier for exhaust gas purification so excellent in durability as to be prevented from being fractured when subjected to severe thermal cycles of heating and cooling and strong mechanical vibration.

SOLUTION: This metallic carrier for exhaust gas purification is formed by joining a metal honeycomb core body with a metal outer cylinder to surround the outer periphery of the metal honeycomb core body. The metal honeycomb core body is formed by overlapping and rolling together of a planar steel sheet and a corrugated steel sheet. The planar steel sheet or the corrugated steel sheet of the outermost circumference of the metal honeycomb core body and the inner face of the metal outer cylinder are joined with arbitrary width in the axial direction and at arbitrary positions in the axial direction continuously or intermittently over the whole circumference in the circumferential direction. The joining band between the outermost planar sheet and the corrugated sheet forming the next circumference, or the outermost corrugated sheet and the planar sheet forming the next circumference is constructed within the width in the axial direction of the joining band with the outer cylinder.
