PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To press a long work without enlarging the ascending/descending stroke of a ram. SOLUTION: In a press unit in which a work 39 supplied on a lower die 15 is worked by elevating and lowering a punch 33 attached to the bottom end of the ram 25 toward the lower die 15 provided on a base 1 under the punch, a die holder 5 with the lower die 15 attached is positioned slidably in the direction orthogonal to the axial line of the ram 25 through a guiding means 6 and the die holder 5 is linked with an air cylinder 22, so that the die holder is movable between a working position matching to the axial line of the punch 33 and a standby position where the supply and the discharge of the work 39 are enabled in the outside of the working area.
