PURPOSE: A traffic information service system by using a wireless LAN and a method for the same are provided to collect and provide traffic information in real time between the terminal installed on the car and the wireless LAN base station as well as to effectively service the additional information such as an Internet search and a mobile office function through a wireless Internet. CONSTITUTION: A traffic information service system by using a wireless LAN includes a wireless LAN connection member(23), a wireless LAN communication member, a packet classifying server(25), a traffic information server(26) and a packet classifying server(25). The wireless LAN connection member(23) exchanges a transaction with the terminal installed on the car for supplying an additional information such as traffic information. The packet classifying server(25) classifies the packet transmitted through the wireless LAN communication member. The traffic information server(26) collects the traffic information collection packet classified by the packet classifying server(25), extracts the information corresponding to the traffic information request packet and supplies the extracted information to the packet classifying server. And, the packet classifying server(25) extracts the additional information corresponding to the additional information request packet classified by the packet classifying server(25) and supplies the extracted additional information to the packed classifying server(25).
