PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheets fluorescence detecting sensor for precisely receiving fluorescence generated from paper sheets, which is hardly affected by the condition of the paper sheets. SOLUTION: A paper sheets fluorescence detecting sensor 10 uses an ultraviolet reflection filter 30 to concurrently meet the requirements of applying an ultraviolet ray in a direction orthogonal to a conveying path 4 and ensuring the proper reception of fluorescence from paper sheets 7. This ultraviolet reflection filter 30 reflects a light emitted from an ultraviolet light source 12 to produce lights having an optical axis R2 that crosses at right angles the conveying path 4 of the paper sheets 7, while allowing a fluorescence receiving element 16 to receive a light that has passes the ultraviolet reflection filter 30. Furthermore, an ultraviolet transmission filter 15 additionally disposed between the ultraviolet reflection filter 30 and the ultraviolet light source 12 allows the higher ultraviolet content of a light reflected off the ultraviolet reflection filter (30) to enhance light reception accuracy.
