PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake system for an engine provided with a main collector 5 and a sub-collector 7 connected to it through a collector capacity changing valve 9 capable of preventing reduction of intake air quantity when the collector capacitance selector valve 9 is opened by reduction of pressure of the sub-collector 7 by more than a prescribed value to pressure of the main collector 5. SOLUTION: In opening the collector capacitance selector valve 9 after quick acceleration from a totally closed state of acceleration as a condition for pressure reduction of the sub-collector 7 by more than a prescribed value, change quantity of valve opening area in an initial stage in a valve opening action period is set to be smaller than change quantity of valve part opening area in a terminal stage. Specifically, it is opened at slow speed in the initial stage of opening, and it is opened at fast speed in the terminal stage of opening. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
