PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image processing method in which only the image of one side of a double-sided original is read out with a scanner or the like and rear image correction can be performed, over a wide range from the one side image by sequential processings. SOLUTION: In this color image processing method, for an input image obtained by digital-inputting of the original of a color-printed paper, by using only the information in a specified reference range around pixels of the input image, the rear image correction is performed for these pixels to hold the result as a primary correction result, and rear image correction processing is performed for the specified reference range of the primary correction result. Further, the rear image correction processing is repeated locally, to hold the result as a high-order correction result, and a final output image which is subjected to rear image correction is composited from the correction results and the input image. In this way, rear imaging or surface imaging (of a single side printed original placed with the printed face upward) can be selectively reduced, without repeating the processing over the entire image.
