PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate longitudinal stripes generated in an output image, due to a defective over a continuous range of a plurality of pixels of a CCD or the like, in an image reader. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a reading means 1 provided with the CCD to read image data, a white reference processing means 20 for creating white reference data, on the basis of image data which are read to create the white reference data, and a correction white reference data storing means 22 for storing correction white reference data for correcting the white reference data. The correction white reference data are information indicating positions of defective pixels which exist continuously in the CCD of the means 1.
