PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator causing no scattering of ice in a place other than an ice storage vessel without performing ice separating work in a ice storage vessel nonexistent state. SOLUTION: This refrigerator has an ice making pan, a frame body for supporting this ice making pan, a motor for separating the ice by rotating the ice making pan, an ice storage vessel for housing the separated ice, and a detecting means for prohibiting ice separation when being unable to detect the ice storage vessel by detecting the existence of this ice storage vessel.
