PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platinum alloy for ornaments which has a satisfactory color tone required as that of the material for noble metal ornaments, has excellent castability and workability and can obtain sufficient strength (hardness Hv) to a degree that scratches are hard to occur in the process of working and using by avoiding the use of metallic components causing metal allergies such as Ni, Co, Sn and Cr. SOLUTION: The platinum alloy has a composition consisting essentially of Pt and containing, by weight, Cu, Pd, Re and/or Ru. It is desirable that Cu is added by 8 to 12%, Pd by 1 to 6%, and Re by 0.3 to 5%, and the balance Pt. Alternatively, it is desirable that Cu is added by 8 to 12%, Pd by 1 to 6% and Ru by 1 to 3%, and the balance Pt. Thus, the sound platinum alloy for ornaments in which the occurrence of ear cracking on rolling is suppressed, also, the occurrence of pinholes on casting is suppressed, further, the occurrence of blackening is suppressed, and which has a reduced change of color tones can be obtained in a high yield.
