PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake device for an engine of horizontally laid type capable of suppressing such an occurrence that an accelerator wire is pushed behind the vehicle in the event of collision in case the front intake and rear exhaust system is adopted. SOLUTION: The intake device of the engine equipped with an intake manifold to introduce the intake air from the front to the engine of a horizontally laid type is structured so that the accelerator wire 30 to adjust the degree of opening of an intake throttle valve is installed on the vehicle or front side of a intake gas introducing pipe 17 to put a surge tank in communication with the intake throttle valve 1 in a position a certain distance apart from the external wall of the intake gas introducing pipe, wherein the intake gas introducing pipe is furnished with a wire restricting projection part 40 having a wire receptacle 40f mating with the extended part of the wire and protruding to the vehicle front by a length shorter than the above-mentioned specified distance.
