PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable separation performance regardless of the density of an original in a separation stage where recording material is separated from a transfer belt at the double-sided image forming time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an image amount calculation means for calculating the image amount of the original, and destaticizing voltage for destaticizing the transfer belt is controlled to be an optimum value at which separation is stable in accordance with the image amount on a first side at the time of forming the image on a second side.
