PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has inexpensive constitution and successively and accurately detects the amount of developer even for a developing device or a process cartridge having large capacity of the amount of the developer, and the process cartridge provided in the same. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a latent image carrier 101, the developing device 104, and detectors 10, 20 for the amount of the developer successively detecting the amount of the developer in the developing container 140 of the developing device, and forms a picture on a recording medium. The detectors 10, 20 for the amount of the developer have: transmission means 14, 24 transmitting detection voltages for detecting the amount of the developer; a plurality of electrode members at an input side 1a, 2a installed inside the developing container 140 and inputting the detection voltages; electrode members at an output side 1b, 2b opposed to the electrode members at the input side 1a, 2a, disposed in the developing container 140, and outputting electrostatic capacity complying with the amount of the developer to the main body of the apparatus; and a transmission control means controlling the transmission operation of the transmission means 14, 24. The transmitting means 14, 24 transmit at non-overlapping timing different vibration voltages to the plurality of electrode members for the input side 1a, 2a by control done by the transmission control means.
