PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image playback device and its method, capable of returning to an adequate playback position using a simple operation, when the playback process is tried to restart from a slightly returned position during the playback. SOLUTION: In an image playback device for playback an image and a voice, a returning key 106 for returning the playback position with a backward return amount, which is smaller than the movement for each chapter of a scan key 105, is provided, and by depressing the key 106, the playback can be carried out again, after the playback position is returned slightly. This small returning amount is determined based on a starting position of a caption of a sub-video or a silent part of the voice, so the playback can start at a suitable position for understanding the content of the video.
