<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitor which has a high capacity per unit mass and has satisfactory heat resisting properties, to provide a sintered compact which gives the same, and to provide niobium powder which gives the same. <P>SOLUTION: The niobium powder having a composition containing Mg and Zr of, by mass, 50 to 400 ppm, respectively, 20 to 200 ppm W, 300 to 3,000 ppm Ta, and elements other than oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, Mg, Zr, W and Ta of ≤50 ppm, respectively, is produced.
