<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire retardant electric wire or cable which is prevented from whitening by shock or rubbing, can recycle a coating and greatly lessens friction upon stretching the electric wire or cable through a conduit line to make a wire bery-out work easy. <P>SOLUTION: For the fire retardant electric wire or cable 10 obtained by covering a conductor 11 with an insulating coating to form an insulated core 12, twisting such cores together with an inclusion 13 and forming a coating 14 thereon with a resin composition with at least an inorganic fire retardant additive compounded into a polyolefin, a fatty acid amide is added in a proportion of 0.2-2.2% by weight, preferably 0.3-2.0% by weight based on the whole weight of the resin composition, and the fatty acid amide is a primary amide of a fatty acid having 20-30 carbon atoms.
