PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner realizing the miniaturization and the reduction of cost of a write-in optical system for realizing a parallel processing system, and an image forming apparatus equipped with the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is provided with a light source device 1 emitting a light beam, a rotating deflection device 3 having a plurality of deflection surfaces, a light guide element group 2 shaping the light beam emitted from the device 1 and guiding it to the device 3, and light guide element groups 4 and 5 and image formation element groups 10 and 11 guiding the light beam deflected by the device 3 to the surface of a body to be scanned 8 and forming the image. In the scanner, the element groups 4 and 5, and 10 and 11 divide the light beam to two or more areas so as to make the divided light beam scan in a specified range in a main scanning direction at different positions on the same surface to be scanned. By such constitution, optical scanning is performed intensively by the ordinary light source device and the deflection device, so that space occupied by the device is saved and cost merit becomes large.
