PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic signal system for instructing the validity/invalidity of the railroad crossing of a vehicle to the driver of the vehicle when the vehicle passes the railroad crossing to make it possible for the vehicle to safely pass the railroad crossing even when a vehicle dwells in the periphery of the railroad crossing. SOLUTION: This traffic signal system is set along a road A in the neighborhood of a railroad crossing B across the road A, and provided with a dwell detecting device 10 ahead of the railroad crossing B, and a railroad crossing signal device 20 and a railroad crossing signal display device 30 after it. The railroad crossing signal device 20 transmits a lamp color signal to a lamp 22 to make the lamp 22 light blue, flash yellow, flash red or light red based on the combination of a train approach signal with a dwell signal transmitted from the dwell detecting device 10. The railroad crossing signal display device 30 displays character data such as 'Watch out for a railroad', 'Congestion ahead' or 'Train is approaching' are displayed based on the combination of the dwell signal transmitted from the dwell detecting device 10 and the lamp color signal to be transmitted to the lamp 22.
