PURPOSE: A device and a method for the automatic power off of a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) are provided to prevent the damage of data and a system by automatically turning off the power of the PDA if a position of the PDA is suddenly changed by dropping or by the external shock. CONSTITUTION: A main controller(10) controls power, and a memory(40) such as a flash ROM storing an OS(Operating System) and an SDRAM(Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) storing the personal information of a user. An acceleration sensor(30) outputs an X and an Y-PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal matched with a signal sensed and output from an X and an Y sensor for sensing a slope of an X and an Y-axis direction. After deciding a time for the automatic power off by receiving the X and the Y-PWM signal through an interface(22), a sub controller(20) outputs a corresponding control signal to the main controller through the interface(21).
