PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect poor contact between an output terminal and an power source terminal by attaching a battery pack, having a signal terminal other than a power source terminal. SOLUTION: The charger comprises a +/- output terminal 1, connected to a +/- power source terminal 11 of a battery pack 10 which is charged, a detection terminal 2 connected to a signal terminal 12 of the battery pack 10, a bypass resistor 4 connected through a detection switch 3 connected in series between an earth and a '+' side output terminal 1A, and a control circuit 5 which turns on/off the detection switch 3 and comprises a voltage detection circuit 9 which detects a voltage of the '+' side output terminal 1A for detecting poor contact between the output terminal 1 and the power source terminal 11. The charger temporarily turns on the detection switch 3 with the battery pack 10 attached, and detects a voltage of the '+' side output terminal 1A using the voltage detection circuit 9 of the control circuit 5. The contact between the output terminal 1 and the power source terminal 11 is decided to be poor, if a detection voltage is lower than a set voltage. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
