PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set, capable of enhancing the interest in a function for displaying a standby screen. SOLUTION: A portable telephone 1, which is composed by turnably connecting a telephone set body upper part 21 and a body lower part 22 via a hinge 23, is provided with a foldable body 2. Since an image for displaying as a standby screen in a display 3 is changed to the image selected from a plurality of images previously stored at random at the time of folding the set body 2, the standby screen different from one before folding the set body 2 is displayed, when opening the set body 2 the next time.
