A thin polarization plate having an excellent optical characteristic and an optical compensation function. The polarization plate includes at least two optical compensation layers which include a polymer film optical compensation layer A satisfying the conditions (I) and (II) and a non-liquid crystal polymer film optical compensation layer B satisfying the conditions (III) to (V): 20 (nm) <= REa <= 300 (nm) (I), 1.0 <= RZa/Rea <= 8 (II), 1 (nm) <= REb <= 100 (nm) (III), 5<= RZb/Reb <= 100 (IV), 1 (µm) <= Db <= 20 (µm) (V). A liquid crystal display device using the polarization plate is also disclosed.
