[Also in Division H5] A flexible, decorative, heated covering for walls or ceilings comprises a flexible base layer 1 with a film 3 of electrically conducting silicone elastomer coated thereon, an electrically insulating layer 5 applied on the elastomer film 3, said layer having a decorative surface formed by embossing or pattern pigmentation, and at least one pair of electrodes 4 for passing current through the elastomer film. The base layer 1 need not be insulating, but has a further layer 2 of electrically insulating material on the side distant from the elastomer film. Alternatively the electrodes 8, Fig. 2 (not shown), are embedded in the base layer 6, adjacent the elastomer film 7. The base layer is asbestos paper, heat resistant cellulose paper, nylon paper, polyethylene terephthalate paper, glass cloth or woven fabric of nylon, polyethylene terephthalate or polypropylene or a polyester or polyolefin film. The insulating layers 5, 2 are polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, natural or synthetic rubber, silicone resin, impregnated paper, polyvinyl fluoride or polyethylene terephthalate or a polyester. The electrodes 4, 8 are of metal strip, mesh or wire, and are attached by stapling, sewing, adhesive cement or positioning in the elastomer before curing. |
