Tire test bed (1) in which a tire (4) is placed in position against a rotating drum (2) surface (7). A sensor (8) is mounted within the test surface, with the sensor flush with the outer surface of the drum. The sensor, e.g. a CCD or CMOS camera, acts as a total reflection sensor. A multiplicity of sensors is let into the drum surface, with the number between 2 and 100,000.
