DOCK LEVELER WITH INFLATABLE COLUMN ASSEMBLY

A dock leveler (10) for a truck (14) loading dock includes a pivotal deck (1 6) that is actuated by an inflatable column assembly (26a). The inflatable colu mn assembly (26a) includes a pliable tube (44) that when inflated has a general ly vertical cylindrical shape that can provide a heavy deck with substantial columnar support. The shape and orientation of the column assembly (26a) is such that the lengths of the pliable tube's seams are minimized. A pliable fabric sheet (80) held in tension against the underside of the deck (16) provides a generally flat, broad surface against which the pliable tube (44) can push as the inflatable column assembly (26a) pushes the deck (16) upward . A footed pallet (100) underneath the pliable tube (44) can be banded to the deck (16) during shipment. After installation, the pallet (100) can be readi ly lifted for cleaning the pit floor underneath the pallet (100).
