The device has at least one axle bridge (1) connected to vehicle wheels (4), sensors (2,3) attached to the axle to sense forces acting on the wheels and a computer unit that outputs a tilt protection signal depending on detected forces. Force sensors are arranged on the axle bridge at a defined distance from a vehicle wheel. The computer units determines a vertical load (5) from their signals whose value is used as a tilt protection criterion.
